I frequently get asked what to wear to a family photo session. It is an important decision as these photos will be treasured for years to come. Below are some tips to pick out some clothes for your family.
What to wear in a family photo session:
1. Coordinating colors, not everyone has to match.
Pick a couple of colors and have everyone coordinate, but not necessarily matching. If you stay within a color palette everyone will complement one another.
2. Accessories.
Accessories add to your outfit and can be fun in photos. Scarfs, necklaces, hats, and ties. You can choose to just use accessories in some of the images, to change the feel of the photo shoot.
3. Think layers, or clothing collections.
It is nice if shopping for the kids if they have clothing collections (Old Navy, Gap, Gymboree are just a few), Being able to buy for all children at one place makes sure you are coordinating the clothes.
Layers are nice to change the pictures a bit. Add or take off a jacket or sweater and the shoot will gain a new feel.
4. Think about background.
Are you having a session indoors our outside? If indoors what are the color of the backdrops.
5. Think timeless.
Since these photos will be treasured for years to come, if you stay classic you cannot go wrong.
